Different Keeps Us On Our Toes

In this view, this Switzer Group design looks like a pretty straightforward conference table. A twenty-some-odd foot long boat with beautiful veneers and inlay, power & data, all of the modern amenities, right?

Yes, but. . . Determined to be a little different, the designers came up with an unusual treatment at the ends of the table. Notched corners! We love this stuff! Here we see several material mix options that were explored during the design development process. Using WG's computer rendering services*, Switzer was able to evaluate a range of aesthetic approaches.

Another part of WG's standard procedure is to analyze a table's structure with our Solidworks 3D Design software. Component fit and construction features can be examined before cutting any actual material, saving time and money.

Here we have the table under construction in our shop. The unique stainless steel edged notched end is clearly visible. Other materials include etimoe veneer a solid mahogany.

Tom Yacawych is one of our most experienced cabinetmakers. His skill plus the most modern equipment produces memorable results. This is WG's state-of-the-art Tagliabue panel sander, through which one of the Switzer table’s top panels is being processed. An incredibly precise machine, the Tag produces a perfectly smooth surface to which we apply a tough catalyzed lacquer finish.

The client, a New York based international relief agency, has at its disposal a one-of-a-kind conference table featuring unique aesthetics and 21st century functionality. It was a pleasure to help in its creation.
