Rock Solid Flexibility in Boston

Boardroom table wide shot
Alternate view of table Detail view of table

WallGoldfinger does a tremendous amount of work for the country's leading law firms. Here we show a project in Boston, designed by Visnick & Caulfield, the centerpiece of which is a brilliantly conceived multi-function boardroom/ conference table. The table features movable sections of lightweight stone (see article below), framed by stainless steel and wood. These sections can be arranged as shown, used individually, or linked together "classroom" style. The wooden center section can be split longitudinally to create side tables or can be removed from the room. The table is constructed from mahogany solids, sapele veneer, stainless steel, and lightweight panels of "Absolute Black" granite.

Featured Material: Lightweight Stone

Lightweight Stone detail

"Lightweight" is not a word that comes to mind in your typical conversation about stone. However, WallGoldfinger counters the laws of physics by pioneering the use of lightweight stone panels – originally developed for elevator interiors – for table tops.

Virtually any type of stone can be used in these composite panels. The technique involves gluing a standard 3/4" (2cm) thick stone slab to aluminum honeycomb panel and then milling away 2/3 of the slab. The result is an exceptionally rigid and stable panel about one third the weight of a comparable piece of full thickness stone.

WallGoldfinger has used lightweight stone in tables which are portable and/or reconfigurable, such as the Boston project described above. Other applications might include vertically mounted panels on reception desks or credenzas.

Reconfiguring Tables

Reconfiguring Arbor Tables

Arbor tables have been proven to be a flexible, low cost alternative solution for boardrooms, conference rooms, and training rooms for over two decades. The essence of an Arbor table is its lightweight top and its removable legs or base - beyond that, the sky's the limit in terms of design possibilities. Arbors are typically joined together in different configurations to suit different purposes; this is made possible by WallGoldfinger's unique ganging mechanisms.

Reconfiguring Arbor Tables

Added to an already extensive list of components and material choices, new for 2009 are an aluminum edge molding and an extruded aluminum leg (illustrated above). The leg is unique in that it features the option of snap-in panels; these create integral wire chases.

We have recently updated our Arbor Specification Guide. Please see our website for a PDF version or contact us for a printed copy.
